The Council of Catholic Women has served the Church for over 75 years. The Catholic Bishops of the United States sought to establish a council to "give the Catholic women a common voice and an instrument for united action; to insure Catholic representation on national committees; and to stimulate the work of existing Catholic women's organizations to greater service in meeting the needs of our times." It was to capitalize on this potential that the federation NCCW was created. The federation embraces ALL existing Catholic women's groups.

The women of the Council, then and today, recognize the needs of women not only in the home and church, but in all society, locally and internationally. We are a strong sisterhood, providing an emphasis on women and reaching out and effecting change by encouraging and empowering our sisters to develop and use their God-given talents to the fullest.

As we approach the 21st Century, our COMMITMENT remains the same to:

  • SUPPORT

  • EMPOWER

  • EDUCATE

  • all Catholic women in:

  • SPIRITUALITY

  • LEADERSHIP

  • SERVICE.

  • Our Church Commission, Community Concerns, International Concerns, Family Concerns, Legislation, and Organization Commissions provide the framework for carrying out our mission statement.

Under the mantle of Our Lady of Good Counsel and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, our visions and the works of our Bishops will become realities.
